Sandy Gives Thanks!

There was a message on craigslist about a dog in starving condition hanging around the corner of Gender and Groveport Roads in Canal Winchester. Several people were very concerned about this dog. Two volunteers with Animal Rescuers Friend went out last night and set a large dog trap provided by Columbus Dog Connection. Kellie from CDC got us the trap right away. When the ARF volunteers went back at midnight, the dog was not yet caught, but this morning she was in the cage, barking!

The dog is now named Sandy.

One ARF! volunteer brought Sandy into her home and a third took pictures. As you can see, Sandy is now comfy and cozy and warm. You can also see her ribs.

Steff, owner of 4 Healthy Paws, and Sandy.

After Sandy's update was posted on craigslist, the owner of a pet bakery in Pickerington came to Sandy's temporary home bearing nutritious treats to help re-build Sandy's health. www.4HealthyPawsOhio.com is the website.

UPDATE: Sandy has a wonderful home!!!!

Demona and Ghost

Demona is our older cat; we got her through Craig's list. The people who had her could not keep her and if we had not taken her she was going to be going to the Humane Society. She was about six months old. When we first got her she hid from us for two days, but as you can see she is a happy healthy cat now with an attitude.

Ghost is the baby and we just got her after she was found abandoned at a local store. She was a scared little bundle when we first got her. She is growing fast and is fearless. She is holding her own with Demona despite the size difference. They have become friends despite Demona's standoffish attitude.

It's Me, Spanky!

There is nothing like a hayride to rev me up

I'm in the Christmas spirit!

Hi, everybody! It's me, Spanky! I showed up at an ARF member's apartment, but she isn't allowed to have pets! But I was so cute that she fed me tuna until she could figure out how to find me a good home. She even left work early one day to take me to the vet's but you know me! I hid until after the vet's office was closed and then when I was sure the coast was clear, I came out meowing for my supper!!

Finally, it was determined that I could go live at my new friend's mother's house. So "Grandma" got up early on Saturday - she planned to sleep in that day, but it didn't work out - HA HA HA!! - and drove to Columbus to pick me up and take me to the vet's for a check-up.

My new friend and "Grandma" couldn't even figure out that I was a guy!!! I told you I was sneaky! But let me assure you, good old Spanky is all man, baby! I just can't have kids! Since I can't support a family, it's just as well that I got neutered.

Anyway, thanks to ARF! paying for my check-up and providing cat food, here I am in my new home! I am happy and healthy, and I have a forever home. Thank you, ARF!

Ol' Red

In early March 2006, I found myself out in the country, looking for food, looking for love, playing on the road. Mommy (because she was my mother in the hour we spent together) made her truck into a roadblock so no one could hit me, then put me into the truck and drove me to her house. Problem was, she has an indoor female dog who will not tolerate other females, and a big female dog outside who feels the same way. So, she called her daughter on the phone and asked her to bring out a big bowl of food, dry mixed with canned. I inhaled that food!! Then Mommy called ARF! and ARF! came to my rescue! Before I knew it I was at a veterinary clinic, getting an exam, then kenneled for safe keeping. (No dog ever got hit by a car while she or he was in a kennel!) The people at the vet clinic said how sweet and cute I am - and not to be conceited, I must be because Mommy said the same thing - and within the week, I was living in my new home. "Love got me in, and love got me out." Thanks, ARF!!!
Love always,
Ol' Red

Our First (of Many) Success!!

Sidney was found by a "Good Samaritan" in the woods. She was lying by a stream with a broken leg. He carried her for over a mile through the woods and took her to area vet clinics to try to get someone to take her. One of ARF's volunteers arrived at the clinic. A friend of the volunteer was also at the clinic and knew someone looking for a black lab puppy. Together the three of them began a plan for rescuing Sidney. Even though ARF did not currently have the funds for the entire bill, it was decided to take her in and ask animal lovers to help donate for her care.

Sidney's x-rays showed a broken bone that needed to be treated by an orthopedic specialist. She would need surgery and rest to recover from her injury. Her medical bills totaled over $1000.

If you would like to donate to help with Sidney's bills, please send your donation to Animal Rescuer's Friend, P.O. Box 753, Lancaster, Ohio 43130 or use the paypal account online.
